About Us

Pamlico County Disaster Recovery Coalition (PCDRC)

What is the PCDRC?  The PCDRC is an all volunteer organization started in October 2011 after Hurricane Irene devastated Pamlico County.  It was re-activated after Hurricane Florence ripped through the county in September 2018. The PCDRC is now an ongoing community based organization with one paid Director, ready to assist the county’s response to disasters.

Mission Statement
The PCDRC’s mission is to support the residents of Pamlico County in Readiness for a natural or health disaster; to support the Pamlico County government in its Response to a disaster; and, to provide long-term assistance with residents’ Recovery from personal and property damages.  We believe that all people of Pamlico County should have a safe home following a disaster, regardless of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, or religious preference.

How does PCDRC work?
Following a disaster, our growing group of dedicated volunteers wants to assist our neighbors in times of need.  We can help you find the resources you need to rebuild your life and your home. PCDRC works with a broad spectrum of local, state and federal programs, as well as private partnerships to assist qualified survivors (homeowners).  Recovery is a long-term process. The PCDRC addresses all aspects of life surrounding a disaster: construction needs, health and wellness, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs.

What has the PCDRC accomplished since September 2018 (Hurricane Florence)?
During the first month, 1400 households were helped at the Distribution Center with food, disaster supplies, and health/wellness (emotional, mental, and spiritual) referrals.        By 2019, the PCDRC had over 550 homeowner requests for help with damage repairs. Now, in April 2022, the PCDRC (with help from its partners) has brought more than $7 million worth of help to Pamlico County between money and volunteer work hours.  We have helped residents repair over 275 homes. Almost 4 years have past since Hurricane Florence and work is ongoing with about 25 homes remaining to be repaired.
